🏴☠️In the first half of 2024, approximately 1.38 billion USD in crypto was stolen worldwide
Cybersecurity experts from TRM Labs note: this is twice as much as in the same period last year.
➡️ How did this happen⁉️ — Let's clear up the mystery: in the last 6 months, the average token prices have significantly increased compared to last year, which greatly contributed to the increase in the amount stolen... Nonetheless, the sum is still substantial.
➡️ The most common type of fraud is the theft of private keys and seed phrases used to access crypto wallets.
➡️ 70% of the stolen crypto came from 5 major fraudulent attacks. The most egregious case was that of the Japanese🇯🇵 crypto exchange DMM, from which more than 300 million USD in bitcoins were stolen.
➡️ The average amount per hack in the first 6 months of 2024 was 150% higher than in 2022.
That's the fascinating math, folks.
