😱 In accordance with ISO 20022 requirements, SWIFT will stop supporting unstructured addresses in November 2026
Currently, approximately 65% of payment messages contain unstructured addresses. The measure reflects evolving regulatory and operational standards.
➡️ City and country fields in CBPR+ messages must be populated using structured data for all parties involved, except in certain ISO 20022 message types. The use of BIC-only identification will remain a permitted option.
➡️ This measure aligns with the G20’s objectives to enhance the quality and transparency of cross-border payments, as well as with the harmonization requirements of the CPMI and upcoming regulatory frameworks such as the FATF Travel Rule.
➡️ The use of structured address data will enable greater straight-through processing (STP), more efficient compliance screening, and increased transparency across the entire payment chain.
➡️ SWIFT warned that it will not develop fallback solutions for institutions that are not ready on time: compliance with the November deadline is non-negotiable.
