The situation ultimately proved less severe than initially reported. Both companies denied the alleged cyberattacks, while user and market reactions remained relatively calm.
💎 Typical pattern: a seller on an underground forum claims to possess large-scale access to private data. Threat-monitoring accounts then amplify the information across social media and cybersecurity channels. Shortly afterward, the exchange or company involved issues an official denial supported by technical explanations, and public attention usually fades within hours.
💎 In the case of Polymarket, company representatives rejected claims regarding the alleged theft of 300,000 records, describing the post published by user xorcat on DarkForums as “completely false.” The leaked 750 MB package reportedly contained only publicly available information and responses from open APIs. Nearly two weeks after the alleged incident, no private keys or KYC-related user data have surfaced online, reinforcing the view that attackers did not gain access to sensitive information.
💎 Regarding Kraken: in January, malicious actors offered access to an administrative panel for only 1 USD, but the exchange later stated that the incident had limited impact. Around 2000 profiles were affected, although the main systems continued operating normally and customer funds remained secure.
💎 A similar pattern is increasingly being observed outside the crypto industry as well. In February 2026 alone, the group Everest claimed to have stolen data from several major corporations. Nevertheless, all of the companies mentioned stated thar the information was false.
💎 According to cybersecurity experts, the apparent decline in credible large-scale threats may be linked to the shutdown of the underground forum BreachForums in 2025, which reportedly weakened a significant portion of the infrastructure used by cybercriminal groups.
