According to the latest report from the Central Bank of Uruguay, this form of payment has far surpassed credit and debit cards. Overall, data from the second half of 2024 shows the following:

๐Ÿ’™ Electronic payments accounted for 77.4% of the total transaction volume.

๐Ÿ’™ Over 101 million electronic transfers were made, of which 35 million were interbank.

๐Ÿ’™ Payments via QR code grew by 40%.

๐Ÿ’™ There was a decline in check usage, with an approximate drop of 5%.

๐Ÿ’™ Context: Uruguay has 120,000 active electronic payment terminalsโ€”a significant number for a population of 3,499,451 people.

๐Ÿ’™ The banking sector suggests that to further promote electronic payments, the limits for instant bank transfersshould be raised. Currently, these limits stand at 500 USD for transactions in dollars and 22,000 Uruguayan pesos(around 521 USD) for transactions in local currency.
