โ ๏ธ Spain ๐ช๐ธ: identity theft cases in online gambling are on the rise, with 8,675 reports in 2025
The Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) states that this figure represents a 12% increase compared to 2024.
๐น The complaints relate to issues involving 15,871 gaming accounts, corresponding to 4% of taxpayers who received tax information linked to gambling activity.
๐น Among those affected, women and individuals over 26 years old predominate, which differs from the typical profile of local online gambling users, who are mainly men aged 18 to 25.
๐น The majority of fraud cases involving the misuse of personal data occurred in the sports betting segment, which accounted for 85% of all cases in 2025. The casino segment also recorded significant growth, rising from 7% in 2024 to 18% in 2025.
๐น Notably, the increase in complaints coincided with the reintroduction of welcome bonuses, which had been banned until 2024.
