🎉 Paraguay🇵🇾: in the first quarter of 2026, electronic payment volume increased by 24%, while the number of transactions grew by 35%

This growth was driven by the widespread adoption of QR codes, digital cards, and NFC wallets. Here is how it appears in the data:

🔣 One of the key factors was the growth of e-commerce. Between January and April, the volume of online purchases increased by 99% compared with the same period of the previous year, reaching 232 million USD.

🔣 Although the number of transactions increased, the average transaction value declined. During the reported period, it stood at 117,000 guaraníes (approximately 19 USD), representing a 9% decrease compared with the previous year.

🔣 Among financial instruments, debit cards recorded the strongest growth with an increase of 32%, compared with 13% for credit cards. In addition, 37% of all cards in circulation already correspond to digital versions.

🔣 QR-based payments continue gaining momentum across the country. In April 2026 alone, the number of QR transactions reached 20.2 million, reflecting annual growth of 61%.

The sectors with the highest concentration of QR transactions were:

Supermarkets35%
Gas stations17%
Restaurants13%

🔣 Currently, more than 70% of all digital payments in Paraguay are carried out through mobile devices, reinforcing smartphones as the country’s primary digital payment channel.
