🇪🇺 Europe: Kraken and Mastercard launch retail crypto payments

Over 150 million merchants worldwide will now be able to accept bitcoin as a retail payment method for European and UK-based Kraken users.

🔣 Background: In 2023, Mastercard partnered with the exchange Mercado Bitcoin to introduce its Crypto Credentialsystem, which allows P2P transactions using aliases instead of complex blockchain addresses.

🔣 The new phase: This European collaboration includes the launch of physical and digital debit cards that link users’ crypto balances with everyday in-store spending.

🔣 The partnership also builds on Kraken Pay, the platform’s tool for facilitating cross-border payments in crypto and fiat currencies. Since its launch in January, over 200,000 users have already activated their own "Kraktag" to send and receive funds.
