The case stems from legal actions brought by the Lotería de Concepción and the Polla Chilena de Beneficencia in relation to the country’s gambling market.

🟣 In March of this year, after six major Chilean internet providers blocked online gaming platforms by court order, the claimants turned to the Court of Appeals requesting the same measure against mirror sites that appeared afterward.

🟣 Telecommunications companies responded that the measure was technically unfeasible and that such attempts could negatively affect other services. At that stage, the Court of Appeals accepted that argument. Later, the situation changed, as the Supreme Court concluded that a “procedural error” had occurred in the earlier ruling.

🟣 As a result, the Court of Appeals must issue a new decision, which—given the context of the case—is expected to include measures aimed at the blocking of mirror sites.
