Apple's "tap-and-go" technology is expected to receive approval from European regulators in May.
Apple's mobile payment system based on "tap-and-go" is about to receive approval from the European regulator, although it still requires some adjustments to comply with the requirements of Europe's antitrust authorities.
🟢 Tap-and-go is a contactless payment technology, thanks to which the Apple Pay wallet has been virtually without competition in Europe; regulators consider this unacceptable.
🟢 Consequently, it is necessary to include additional features in the firmware, such as disabling default preferred payment applications, access to FaceID authentication functions, and a dispute resolution mechanism.
🟢 Ignoring the requirements could result in a fine of up to 10% of global annual revenues, which for Apple could mean billions of dollars.
🟢 As a result of these changes, iOS users in EU member countries will be able to enjoy the enhanced features of the system, not only Apple users (without the need to install Apple Pay or Apple Wallet), but also competitor's mobile wallets.
🟢 The approval will have a validity of 10 years.
