Operation “Economic Fury”, aimed at blocking Iranian financial flows, was launched in March 2025 and, according to statements from the U.S. Treasury Secretary, has already led to a sharp decline in the local currency and a deep economic crisis.

📌 In January, the U.S. Treasury imposed crypto-related sanctions in the region for the first time, targeting the exchanges Zedcex and Zedxion (registered in the United Kingdom🇬🇧), accused of transferring large sums to digital wallets linked to Iran.

📌 At the end of March, dollar-backed stablecoin issuers Tether and Circle froze one of the wallets belonging to the Iranian crypto exchange Wallex, one of the country’s largest crypto platforms.

📌 Last week, Tether announced that, due to sanctions, it had blocked 344 million USD in USDT across two wallets. The freeze was carried out in coordination with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and U.S. law-enforcement agencies. No public details were provided regarding the connection of these funds to Iran or other holders.
