💰USA🇺🇸: Telegram launches a self-custodial crypto wallet

The wallet, developed by The Open Platform (TOP) on the TON blockchain, allows users to retain full control over their private keys.

▶️It features a split-key recovery system, where one part of the credentials is linked to the user’s Telegram account and the other to their email, enabling secure access recovery without compromising security.

▶️TON Wallet offers P2P payments, token swaps, staking, and commission-free crypto purchases through regulated provider MoonPay. In the U.S., users can send and receive funds via debit cards, and the wallet integrates with Telegram Mini Apps dApp ecosystem.

▶️Background: Telegram suspended its crypto project in 2020 after SEC intervention. Since then, its involvement with the TON blockchain remained mostly symbolic. However, the platform continued to roll out related features like tokenized usernames and a digital collectibles marketplace.

▶️For regulatory reasons, Telegram does not provide financial services directly. Fiat-to-crypto conversions are handled by licensed third-party providers.
