🇺🇸USA: First Senate Hearing on Sports 🎲 Betting Puts Industry Under Federal Scrutiny.

"America's High-Stakes Bet"
this was the theme of the first U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on sports betting, marking the beginning of a federal investigation into the industry.

🤔 Why now?

Since the Supreme Court's landmark decision in Murphy v. NCAA (2018), which overturned PASPA, sports betting has expanded to 39 states. Previously, only Nevada had legalized this practice.

🧑‍⚖️ What was discussed?

During the hearing, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) emphasized:

➡️ The impact of 24/7 betting availability via mobile phones

➡️ The rapid growth of gambling-related advertising

➡️ The need for regulations to protect consumers and athletes.

"It is essential that Congress analyze the negative effects and decide how the industry should be regulated", said Durbin.

🗣️ Who participated?
Five experts provided testimony:

💥 Charlie Baker, NCAA President 🏀

💥 David Rebuck, former New Jersey gaming regulator ⚖️

💥 Harry Levant, attorney and public health counselor 🩺

💥 Johnson Bademosi, NFLPA representative 🏈

💥 Keith Whyte, Director of the National Council on Problem Gambling 💡.

🔮 What's next?

➡️ Durbin confirmed that this hearing is only the first in a series of discussions regarding the future of sports betting in the United States.
