😳 Turkey🇹🇷: prosecutors dismantle a nationwide illegal online betting network through two large-scale coordinated raids

As a result of the investigation, legal proceedings were launched against 233 suspects linked to suspicious financial transactions totaling approximately 395 million USD. The operation marks another step in Turkey’s intensified enforcement efforts following its removal from the FATF “grey list” in June 2024.

➡️ The companies involved were reportedly operating mainly from abroad and were allegedly connected to international illegal betting structures.

➡️ Those under investigation include 3 senior bank executives, 8 police officers, and 4 lawyers. During the raids, authorities also seized 221 real estate properties, 120 vehicles, and 3 boats, while appointing trustees to several companies and commercial entities.

➡️ Context: according to the 2025 report issued by Turkey’s financial intelligence authority (MASAK), authorities completed investigations into 502 cases related to illegal betting activities and submitted 545 analytical reports and intelligence notes to relevant institutions. In addition, anti-money laundering measures resulted in the suspension of transactions worth 5.1 billion lira (131 million USD) linked to accounts allegedly used by illegal betting operators.

☠️ The latest crackdown forms part of Erdoğan’s broader plan to review nearly 14 million user data records allegedly connected to betting-related activities. The program is specifically scheduled for the 2025-2026 period.
