🪓Turkey🇹🇷: 194 suspects linked to illegal gambling identified using the AVCI AI system
Since 2026, Turkish law enforcement agencies have been using AI to detect illegal transactions.
➡️ On November 3, 2026, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced a large-scale operation targeting individuals suspected of involvement in illegal betting and gambling. The operation was conducted simultaneously across 39 provinces, resulting in the detention of 194 people identified through the AVCI AI system, which had detected suspicious groups on Telegram.
➡️ Law enforcement agencies began using AI for data analysis in early 2026. During the first half of the year, authorities blocked 47,493 gambling websites and carried out 680 police operations, resulting in the arrest of 5,629 people.
➡️ In August, the scale of the phenomenon became increasingly apparent. The 2026 FIFA World Cup provided an opportunity to test the new technologies. Using AVCI, authorities identified 6,314 bank accounts linked to illegal betting.
➡️ Around the same time, details emerged of an interagency strategy to combat illegal operators, which includes AI-assisted investigations. The methods employed include deep analysis of data packets, IP address tracking, pattern recognition, network analysis, detection of reused code and social media monitoring. Authorities have not disclosed specific investment amounts or information about the providers of the AI technologies.
❗️ Colleagues from the R2B channel recommend that individuals connected to the offshore gambling industry leave Turkish territory immediately as a precaution.
