🌴 The paradise island of Anjouan🇰🇲: who controls the issuance of licenses for online casinos, crypto trading, and banking
According to The Guardian, a network of British businesspeople is allegedly using the name of an African island to facilitate underground gambling🇬🇧.
➡️ These activities were reportedly managed from London by a network made up primarily of British businesspeople operating under the name Sherm Group, which allegedly presented itself as a real estate business.
➡️ An Anjouan license can be obtained through Anjouan Corporate Services, which offers assistance with setting up a business for just £19,000. Its promotional brochure lists a UK mobile phone number.
➡️ Around 1,500 licensees are listed in Anjouan Gaming’s public register. Many specialize in crypto gambling, including BC.Game (which sponsored the shirts of British football club Leicester City) and BetBolt.
➡️ Here is what the organization says itself: “Based on carefully reviewed legal opinions obtained from our legal counsel, the constitutional and legislative framework underpinning Anjouan’s licensing regime remains in force. The relevant legislation has not been repealed or replaced, and the Anjouan Offshore Finance Authority remains a legally established body authorized to oversee the issuance of gambling licenses.”
➡️ Regardless of objections from the Central Bank of the Comoros or the identity of the administrative intermediary, licenses are issued by the Anjouan Offshore Finance Authority (AOFA), while the Anjouan Betting and Gaming Council oversees the regime under the “Computer Gaming Licensing Act” No. 1.007 of 2005. It is intended for startups, crypto casinos, and B2B providers.
