❌The largest Bitcoin darknet market disappears: Abacus Market
Abacus, a darknet platform specializing in the sale of stimulants and psychedelics, operated a centralized deposit wallet that supported both Bitcoin and Monero. Now, its website —along with its Clearnet mirror and supporting infrastructure— is no longer accessible. All signs suggest the operators executed a suspected “exit scam,” shutting down the platform and disappearing with users’ funds.
➡️ But there’s a twist: the shutdown may also have been triggered by law enforcement pressure. Following the takedown of one of the darknet’s oldest platforms, Archetyp Market, in June, Abacus reported its highest monthly profit volume.
➡️ Abacus's administrator, on the other hand, blamed withdrawal issues on a DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attack.
➡️ Either way, users fled fast. Daily deposits plummeted: from about USD 230,000 in June to just USD 13,000 between June 28 and July 10.
➡️More context: in June, during a U.S.-led international operation, around 145 darknet and surface web domainswere taken offline. Authorities seized cryptocurrencies tied to BidenCash, a platform accused of selling over 15 millionstolen credit cards and personal data records.
