🏴‍☠️The American Evolve Bank and Trust🇺🇸 confirms a ransomware attack.

Confidential information from the customer database was leaked to the dark web, and as a result, the scale of the breach could impact practically the entire American fintech sector... "Who is behind the attack⁉️" — you might ask. We answer: it is suspected to be the Russia-linked🇷🇺 cybercriminal group LockBit 3.0.

➡️ These events are unfolding as Evolve is embroiled in a bankruptcy case with Synapse; customer funds remain inaccessible, and their confidential data is now freely circulating.

➡️ Not only were users of Evolve's banking-as-a-service (BaaS) partner programs affected — including Affirm, Stripe, Mercury, Airwallex, Alloy, Bond (now part of FIS), Branch, Dave, EarnIn, and TabaPay, affected, but also the bank's own customers, as well as those who sent or received payments from them.

➡️ The biggest concern in the industry right now is that the consequences of the attack could affect a wider user segment — particularly external stakeholders who have demand deposit accounts (DDA) with Evolve.

➡️ The latest annual FBI report on Internet crime, published this spring, showed that financial damage in the U.S. due to ransomware attacks alone increased by 74% in 2023. Furthermore, the use of AI has made the attacks much more effective😱.
