📢Spain 🇪🇸: new deposit limits for gambling accounts approved
Under a special royal decree, gambling account deposits will be limited to 700 euros per day, 1,750 euros per week and 3,300 euros over a four-week period.
➡️ Previously, each operator established its own deposit limits, but the new restriction will apply to all licensed platforms.
➡️ The new system is primarily aimed at players who use services from multiple operators at the same time. According to estimates from the regulator (DGOJ), this situation affects approximately 31% of Spanish online casino users.
➡️ Players will be able to request a modification or removal of the new deposit limits, but only through an official procedure involving additional verification checks.
➡️ The players’ association Jdigital emphasized the technical complexity of building a centralized system capable of monitoring deposits in real time across all licensed operators simultaneously, warning that its implementation could be costly for both regulators and gambling companies. The association also called for a realistic implementation scheduleand stated that initial inconsistencies should not automatically lead to sanctions.
➡️ Currently, one in four Spanish users already accesses unlicensed gambling platforms. Some market participants believe this figure could increase after the new restrictions come into force.
