🪓 South Korea 🇰🇷: president calls for criminal websites to be shut down

The country's president published a post on “X” (formerly Twitter) calling for criminal establishments to be physically shut down and, where possible, destroyed.

However, the targets also reportedly include websites, raising questions about the scope of the order.

💕 The issue concerns the publication of sexually exploitative content or illegal gambling in cyberspace. Setting aside the emotions and the difficulties of translating from Korean into English and then into other languages, the statement most likely refers to the possibility of legally hacking such websites. Therefore, it is best not to jump to conclusions.

💕 The order to shut down and destroy is directed at agencies responsible for combating transnational crime. These presumably include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the police and the Office of Serious Crime Investigation.

💕 Context: on Friday, October 2, the country's public prosecution service was officially abolished. Established in 1948, it had continued operating until then. New agencies are expected to replace it, with separate responsibilities for investigation and criminal prosecution.

Although this is not Latin America, it is still interesting to see how the authorities intend to avoid disorder while pursuing such ambitious objectives.
