Slovakia🇸🇰: mBank launches BLIK payment system for customers
It is already the second Slovak bank to offer the service.
💡 Reference: the BLIK payment system was developed by Polski Standard Płatności and launched in 2015 by six Polish banks. The system allows users to pay for online purchases, make instant transfers and withdraw cash directly through banks' mobile applications. In 2025, 2.9 billion transactions were processed through BLIK, and the number of active users reached 20.7 million. In Poland🇵🇱, BLIK is the most widely used payment system.
💡 How BLIK works: when making a purchase, the customer selects BLIK as the payment method, generates a 6-digit code in their bank's app and enters it on the merchant's payment page. The transaction is then confirmed in the app.
💡 Starting October 1, 2026, the BLIK payment option will be available to all mBank customers in Slovakia, following its earlier launch at Tatra banka. The BLIK operator expects three major Romanian banks🇷🇴 to integrate the technology by the end of 2026, although many Romanian banks prefer the local RoPay system. Following its expansion into Romania and Slovakia, the company is considering introducing the system in Hungary🇭🇺, Austria🇦🇹 and the Czech Republic🇨🇿.
💡 Context: since September 1, BLIK in Poland has begun rejecting transfers to illegal online casinos. Verification is carried out automatically through the Ministry of Finance API.
