😃 SiGMA North America in Mexico City: worth attending—or should you save the budget?

😃 SiGMA North America in Mexico City: worth attending—or should you save the budget?

On September 1–3, SiGMA will hold its first North America Summit in Mexico City. Organizers expect 4,000 delegates, including 1,000 operators and 850 affiliates, with almost half of the audience represented by C-level executives. Fourteen regulators from across the Americas have also confirmed their participation.

Despite the North America label, the event’s main focus will be Mexico and Spanish-speaking LatAm. If you are primarily targeting the US and Canada, lower your expectations.

📊 Preliminary rating: 7/10

As we recently reported, the customer base of Mexican betting platforms doubled during the World Cup, while the number of live bets increased by 60–150%.

Operators will therefore arrive with real, recent pain points: traffic acquisition, deposit conversion, peak-load capacity, fast payouts and retention of newly acquired players.

However, there are two caveats:

➡️ This is the event’s first edition. All the impressive figures are still organizer projections—the actual concentration of operators and buyers remains untested.

➡️ Operators, regulation and affiliates will dominate the agenda. This is not a payments-focused conference, although plenty of local payment industry representatives will certainly attend.

Who should go:

✅ PSPs, acquirers, payment orchestrators and agents—both those sourcing local payment methods and those already offering proven solutions;
✅ operators and affiliates actively expanding into LatAm.

Without a Spanish-speaking representative, a locally relevant product and pre-booked meetings, the rating quickly falls from 7/10 to 3/10.

What we recommend:

✔️ Book at least 8–12 relevant meetings before departure: operators, local PSPs and acquirers, compliance consultants and traffic providers.
✔️ If you represent a PSP, prepare a Spanish-language one-pager covering payment methods, settlement currencies, limits, payout times, rolling reserves, chargebacks, licences and integration timelines.
✔️ Do not rush to buy a booth at a debut event. For an initial market reconnaissance trip, a delegate pass and meetings around the venue may produce better ROI.
✔️ Plan the dates correctly. September 1 is for arrivals, registration and the Awards; the exhibition runs on September 2–3.
✔️ Consider the logistics. Centro Banamex is outside the central districts. Staying in Polanco is advisable, and you should allow extra time for traffic. An umbrella will also come in handy in September. Practical information is available here.
✔️ Follow up on September 7–9 with a summary of the discussion, a concrete proposal, the next call and a designated person responsible on each side. “It was nice meeting you” does not count.

Ideally, you arrive with a relevant product, Spanish-language materials and a full meeting calendar. Without preparation, it will simply become an expensive Mexican holiday.
