💣Russia 🇷🇺: NSPK to reduce interbank fees for betting operators and lotteries starting tomorrow

This measure, although unexpected, responds to strong industry lobbying after profits dropped.

➡️ For major operators (with a turnover of at least 40 billion rubles per quarter), the rate will be reduced from 2% to 1%.

➡️ The interchange will be eliminated, meaning the acquiring fee paid by the acquirer to the card issuer will no longer apply.

➡️ NSPK will introduce new categories to its rewards programs: “Organized gambling and lotteries,” which include gambling (MCC 7995) and state lotteries (MCC 9406). For these categories, the interbank fee will be set at 1.65%.

➡️ One condition: companies must join a partner program at their own expense, under a plan agreed upon with the NSPK operator, aimed at promoting the use of national payment system cards and services.

➡️ Another condition: the funds saved by companies must be allocated to sports development.

➡️Notably, in 2024, net profit in Russia’s legal gambling market dropped by 18.5%, to 92.7 billion rubles, despite total turnover
rises to 4.7 trillion rubles.
