🐒 Puerto Rico🇵🇷: Senate proposes regulating the gambling sector to increase public revenue

Bill No. 960 aims to expand the range of permitted gambling activities and introduce amendments to the “Gambling Commission Act”.

➡️ The proposal includes the legalization of independent poker rooms, esports betting, and interactive electronic lotteries, which could generate an additional USD 50–100 million in budget revenue.

➡️ It is also seen as an opportunity to boost tourism.

➡️ Context: Puerto Rico is an unincorporated organized territory under the jurisdiction of the United States🇺🇸. From an economic standpoint, it is classified as Tier 2, with a GDP per capita of USD 31,603 and a population of 3,195,153, representing a relatively strong position within the region.

➡️ Note: if approved, the tax on interactive electronic lotteries would be set at 20% (with state control over maximum payouts); poker rooms would be subject to a 15% tax on gross revenue, while esports betting would be taxed at 12%, with the aim of fostering partnerships with local video game developers.
