🛑NBU🇺🇦 Prohibits Granting Loans to Problem Gamblers

In Ukraine, close relatives can report individuals with severe gambling addiction. The request will be reviewed by the Gambling and Lottery Regulation Commission (KRAIL), after which this information will be entered into a special Register. Following this, the regulator restricts these individuals' access to gambling establishments and consumer loans.

➡️ Who regulates: the Credit History Bureau (BKI) and KRAIL.

➡️ When: the restriction came into effect on July 25. The information will be provided to credit organizations for free.

➡️ According to the legislation developed by the National Bank, — a) granting consumer credit to persons included in the Register is prohibited, and b) before issuing a consumer loan, lenders must verify whether the applicant is listed in the Register by consulting BKI.

➡️ The restriction targets not all gamblers, but only those whose gambling expenses exceed their personal income.

➡️ Since the beginning of the year, the Problem Gamblers Register in Ukraine has doubled, with a record in April. Currently, there are 7,874 people in the Register.
