📢 Malta🇲🇹: new VAT and gambling tax collection rules came into effect on October 1

Since October 1, new tax rules applicable to VAT and gambling tax have come into effect in Malta. According to the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), the measures are intended to simplify the tax system and ensure the long-term competitiveness of the jurisdiction's gaming sector.

🔣 Simplified tax rates have been introduced for gambling activities. In addition, the procedure for paying VAT on sports betting and certain casino offerings targeting consumers located in Malta has been clarified.

🔣 The new tax system integrates the existing gaming tax and gaming device fee into a single framework based on both the type of game and the way it is offered.

🔣 Regarding the return for September 2026, the filing deadline is October 20. The return format will remain unchanged, at least until November 1. After that, new functionality will be introduced on the portal as part of the planned updates.

🚫 Separately, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) confirmed the suspension of the license of Condor Malta Limited, preventing the company from continuing to operate in the gaming sector.

🚫 The MGA also issued a warning regarding several websites that, according to the regulator, use its trademarks without holding an official MGA license. The list includes:
