😳Kazakhstan🇰🇿: criminal cases launched against influencers promoting online casinos

Authorities state that fines alone are insufficient to deter repeat offenders who break the rules. Therefore, the regulator is considering classifying such actions as facilitation of illegal gambling. This interpretation would allow the application of laws similar to those prosecuting pyramid scheme organizers, which already fall under Kazakhstan’s criminal code.

➡️ In 2024, Kazakhstan enacted a law that bans public and media advertising of online casinos and betting shops. Nevertheless, online gambling networks, particularly foreign ones, continue to operate actively.

➡️ The current fines start at 200,000 tenge (420 USD), which is considered largely ineffective.

➡️ The Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM) is reviewing the introduction of criminal liability for repeat violations.

➡️ A total of 34 influencers who promoted online gambling platforms in early 2025 have been identified. 11 of them have already received administrative fines. However, AFM points out that advertising revenues from such content often exceed the fines, meaning there is little incentive to comply with regulations.

➡️Key fact: since the beginning of the year, more than 17,000 online links have been blocked, mostly mirror sites of international gaming platforms.
