🌀 Humans in the Age of AI — Thoughts by Aleksandr Auzan and What High-Risk Payments Have to Do With It

It is commonly believed that economics is all about spreadsheets and models, which AI will soon process into a detailed plan for building the Beautiful Economy of the Future.

But fundamentally, economics is about people acting under conditions of uncertainty. The future cannot be fully calculated. If it could, entrepreneurs would not exist — only algorithms would remain.

So which skills will always remain human, and how should we develop this competitive advantage?

🛠 The main tool is Imagination — the ability to picture the world differently. Every new market was once someone’s hypothesis. Online banking, crypto, marketplaces, PSPs for high-risk industries... It is imagination that allows us to think beyond the given rules (😉), something AI is fundamentally incapable of doing.

From imagination come the other skills that matter to us:

🛠 Intuition — the ability to make decisions when there is not enough data. Entrepreneurs often make money not because they calculate better, but because they notice weak signals before others do: new demand, changing behavior, or a hidden problem.

🛠 Empathy — understanding someone else’s value system. People do not buy a product; they buy a solution to their problem, a feeling of safety, convenience, status, or hope. Whoever understands other people’s motives better creates value better.

AI is excellent at optimizing what is already known. But when the rules change — or when you need to play outside them — when uncertainty appears or something entirely new must be created, the advantage remains with the living human being.

If the industrial era rewarded discipline, and the digital era rewarded access to information, the AI era may begin to reward something else:

— imagination: the ability to see a market that does not yet exist
— intuition: the ability to act without seeing the full picture
— empathy: understanding what people will want

The market will later test these guesses through profit or loss.
Success will not go to the person who calculates better on their own, but to the one who can imagine the future earlier and more accurately than everyone else.
