🐘 Greece🇬🇷: Eurobank and the National Payments Corporation of India (NIPL)🇮🇳 launched the UPI service

The partnership will enable cross-border money transfers while reducing transaction costs compared with traditional international payment methods.

➡️ In addition to Greece, the UPI network is already available in Singapore🇸🇬, the United Arab Emirates🇦🇪, France🇫🇷, Mauritius🇲🇺, Nepal🇳🇵, Bhutan🇧🇹, Qatar🇶🇦, Sri Lanka🇱🇰 and Cambodia🇰🇭. Its international expansion allows Indian citizens living or traveling abroad to make payments directly from their domestic bank accounts by scanning locally supported QR codes.

➡️ Launched less than 10 years ago, UPI has already become the world's largest instant payment system, surpassing Visa in transaction volume, with approximately 640 million daily transactions compared with 639 million processed by Visa. Some analysts believe the platform could eventually replace other domestic payment systems.

➡️ The expansion of UPI across Europe is part of India's strategy to internationalize its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) through partnerships with banks, payment networks and governments. With this launch, Greece becomes the latest European market to adopt UPI, following the platform's rollout at the Galeries Lafayette department store in Nice, France, in early 2026.
