🐘Google Wallet is about to be launched in India.🇮🇳— independent from Google Pay

Despite not being available yet in the Indian Play Store and having limited functionality on Android devices, you can already add credit and debit cards for contactless payments.

🐘 Google Wallet will be compatible with smartphones that support NFC and can also be installed on watches running WearOS. In addition, the wallet includes additional security features, such as PIN code protection and the ability to remotely disable the service on a lost or stolen device.

🐘 Unlike its counterpart in the United States 🇺🇸, Google Pay in India operates on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) structure, which is regulated and backed by the regulator. This distinction positions Google Pay in India as an independent system and a self-reliant choice. Notably, it enjoys significant popularity, securing the second position in usage, just behind Walmart's PhonePe.

🐘 According to data published by India's "National Payments Corporation" (the parent organization of UPI), in March 2024, the Google Pay app initiated more than 5 billion transactions worth over 83 billion USD. These impressive figures underscore the potential success of Google Wallet's endeavors in the country.
