📢 France 🇫🇷: the European Payment Initiative (EPI) launches a P2P instant payment service
The new service, Wero, will allow users to send and receive money instantly using just a phone number or an email address. In Germany 🇩🇪, Wero has been available since July, meaning that soon Germans and French people will be able to make cross-border payments between participating banks.
➡️ Wero is presented as the successor to Paylib, allowing its users to migrate to the new platform before the previous service shuts down in early 2025.
➡️ Compared to Paylib, Wero incorporates additional features, such as money requests and custom QR code generation.
➡️ Initially, the service will be available for customers of several French banks, including BNP Paribas, Groupe BPCE, Crédit Agricole, Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, La Banque Postale, and Société Générale, as well as their subsidiaries.
➡️ Most of these banks will integrate Wero into their current apps, while La Banque Postale will launch a dedicated Wero app, which will be available in app stores starting in October 2024.
➡️Looking ahead: In early 2025, the service will be extended to Luxembourg 🇱🇺 and the Netherlands 🇳🇱. Additionally, EPI plans to add functionalities such as recurring payments, commercial payments, and BNPL to the app starting next year.
