The state lottery, "Polla Chilena de Beneficencia," was impersonated by a clone called "Polla Casino." Legal action has been initiated against this fraudulent platform.

▶️The fraudulent platform used the corporate identity of the original and even images from a responsible gaming seminar.

▶️It is likely that users who mistakenly accessed the impostor site instead of the official one were met with a much wider and more attractive gaming offer, compared to the "responsible gaming" policy of Polla Chilena de Beneficencia, where prizes are limited to 60% of bets and users with "risky behavior" are blocked.

▶️It’s estimated that Chile is home to around 3,000 illegal online gambling platforms. However, neither Polla Chilena nor regulatory authorities have much recourse, as most of these sites are registered in Curaçao or other offshore jurisdictions, making enforcement and fund tracing extremely difficult.

▶️In an interview with Radio Bio Bio, a spokesperson for Polla said that, by their calculations, in 2023 alone, illegal platforms spent 34 billion USD on advertising—a figure much higher than the 900 million USD that Polla, as a state company with a regulated budget, can invest annually.

▶️Legal gambling operations currently generate approximately 10,000 jobs at Polla, 40,000 in racetracks, and 25,000 in land-based casinos. There is growing concern that illegal gambling activity could lead to a significant reduction in these jobs.

▶️As for regulatory progress, a bill aimed at addressing the issue has been under discussion in the National Congress for over a year and a half. So far, the outcome remains uncertain, and it’s still unclear how the courts will rule in the case involving the impersonation of the state lottery.
