Starting on August 25, citizens and residents of Belarus will no longer be allowed to own, control, or manage cryptocurrency companies operating under the European Union’s MiCA regulatory framework.
The measure is established in Council Decision (CFSP) 2026/1847, which amends and expands the EU sanctions regime against Belarus, introducing new restrictions targeting the crypto sector.

🥺 According to the document, the new rule extends an existing ban that previously applied only to companies providing crypto-asset custody services or digital wallet management services. The restriction now covers a broader range of activities related to cryptocurrency businesses.

🥺 The measure affects transactions involving 14 platforms and targets dealings with foreign cryptocurrency service providers that, according to the European Union, may be used by Russia🇷🇺 to circumvent international sanctions.

🥺 The regulatory update follows the United Kingdom’s🇬🇧 sanctions announced on May 26 against Huobi Global SA🇵🇦, a Panamanian company linked to the HTX cryptocurrency exchange, over alleged involvement in financial networks connected to the sanctioned entities A7 and Garantex.
