😎 Europe tests new payment platform

The European Payments Initiative (EPI) makes significant strides‼️

▶️ Proof of Concept (PoC) transactions were successfully completed in mid-December through the online store of the German football club FC Kaiserslautern. The process involved integrating the Wero digital wallet from EPI with the merchant’s online platform, the acquirer VR Payments, and the customers’ online banking applications.

▶️ The EPI e-commerce module currently supports standard use cases like one-time payments and refunds. Over time, it will expand to include more advanced payment solutions.

▶️ In-store payments are set to roll out in 2026, along with features such as BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later), merchant loyalty programs, and other innovations.

▶️ The official launch is scheduled to begin in Germany 🇩🇪 this summer, followed by Belgium 🇧🇪 in the fall, and France 🇫🇷 in early 2026.

▶️ Key Insight: Designed to compete with major players like Mastercard and Visa, this platform has the potential to reshape the EU’s payment landscape. Its success remains to be seen.
