😱 EU🇪🇺: Revolut🇱🇹🇬🇧 removes USDT from its list of supported assets
Asset delisting: neobank Revolut will discontinue support for the USDT stablecoin, issued by Tether, as it continues developing its own pound sterling-denominated stablecoin.
💎 Implementation timeline: the removal of USDT will take place gradually over nearly two months, in three phases.
1️⃣ From July 6, users are no longer able to purchase USDT through the app.
2️⃣ From July 30, Revolut will stop accepting USDT deposits, and all incoming transfers denominated in the stablecoin will be rejected.
3️⃣ After August 31, any remaining USDT balances will be automatically converted into the user's primary fiat currency at the prevailing exchange rate.
💎 Scope of the measure: the company has not clarified whether the decision will apply to its entire user base — currently 68.3 million users worldwide — or only to specific markets. However, the move coincides with the end of the transitional period under the EU's MiCA regulation. It is worth noting that Tether has neither obtained nor intends to seek authorization to issue USDT under the new European regulatory framework.
💎 Context: in November 2025, Revolut reached a valuation of USD 75 billion, while its annual revenue climbed to USD 6 billion, USD 2 billion higher than in 2024. In March 2026, the company was recognized as Europe's leading neobank based on metrics including number of users, breadth of cryptocurrency products, geographic reach, and integration with everyday financial services. In addition, Revolut already holds banking licenses in the United Kingdom and Europe and continues to pursue a banking license in the United States🇺🇸.
💎 Next step: the removal of USDT is part of Revolut's strategy to launch its own stablecoin. By integrating the asset into its ecosystem, the company will become the issuer of its own digital currency. In February of this year, Revolut was selected as one of the four participants in the FCA regulatory sandbox. Under the program's framework, the reserve-backed pound sterling stablecoin will be available to buy, hold, sell, and transfer within the Revolut app, as well as to be sent through public blockchain networks.
