🕶 Ecuador🇪🇨 adopts Palantir technology to combat illegal betting

The US big data analytics platform will help identify signs of illegal activity.

🟡 Starting in January 2027, Ecuador’s Financial and Economic Analysis Unit (UAFE) will begin using Palantir technology to identify potential signs of money laundering in betting transactions. AI-powered big data analytics will strengthen oversight of platforms, operators, and financial flows.

💬 The initiative will become part of the regulatory framework for the sports betting sector, which involves several government agencies. Although there is no single regulator overseeing the entire sector, the UAFE is responsible for anti-money laundering (AML) procedures.

💬 Palantir has been working with Ecuadorian authorities since 2025. The US company signed a contract worth more than USD 6 million to develop a customs risk management platform and analyze transactions. Palantir’s involvement in Ecuadorian affairs has raised concerns in other countries across the region.

⚪️ Background: Ecuador’s betting sector continues to grow. In the first half of 2026, its volume exceeded USD 70 million, while the number of active betting accounts reached 1.5 million.
