💸💸💸Dominican Republic🇩🇴: the president signed Law No. 86-26 on gambling and also appointed the head of the regulatory authority (DGJA)

The new law, published on October 2 in Official Gazette No. 11263, establishes the legal framework for gambling regulation in the country.

🔣 Key changes include:

🔣 Extending the validity period of lottery licenses from 2 to 5 years, compared with the two-year period provided for in the draft initially approved by the Senate.

🔣 Regarding taxes: a 10% monthly tax on transactions remains in place for the gambling sector. At the same time, the final version of the tax collection platform is still not ready. In the meantime, corporate operators will be required to make fixed monthly payments of USD 83,025.

🔣 The rest of the provisions apparently remain unchanged.

🔣 Under Presidential Decree 684-26, an important role is also assigned to the Advisory Council. Although it has only an indirect relationship with the regulator, the Council will voluntarily provide advice and support to DGJA management in developing public policies aimed at improving internal procedures and service quality.

🔣 Context: 85% of Dominican players prefer sports betting, both online and through traditional channels. Among consumers who specifically choose remote gaming, online casino slot players account for 47% of digital consumers.

🔣 The new legislation establishes the regulatory framework for gambling activities in the Dominican Republic, while introducing changes to the licensing regime and tax obligations applicable to operators.
