🎉 Colombia🇨🇴: international payment provider EBANX launches the instant payment system #Bre-B for foreign merchants
Colombia’s Bre-B is a new national instant payment system in Latin America, officially launched just a month ago. It is a state-owned payment platform operating under an A2A (account-to-account) model, integrated directly into local banking apps and digital wallets.
Among the first companies to integrate with the system is EBANX🇧🇷, a Brazil-based global payments provider.
➡️ EBANX was invited by the Central Bank of Colombia to join the Interdisciplinary Committee on Compatible Payments, which advised regulators throughout the development of Bre-B. The collaboration helped introduce features inspired by nearly five years of experience with Brazil’s Pix system — including QR code payments, user identification via unique keys (ID, phone number, or email), mandatory interoperability for instant transfers, and transaction time limits designed to prevent fraud.
➡️ To expand access to international products and services for both individuals and businesses, EBANX partnered with MOVii, Latin America’s first Banktech, offering end-to-end infrastructure for payment issuance and acceptance.
➡️ Context: according to the Central Bank of Colombia, over 30 million users are already registered with Bre-B, representing 76% of the country’s adult population, while only 18% currently hold bank cards.
➡️ Additional context (macro): EBANX reports that Colombia’s digital economy will surpass USD 52 billion this year, ranking third in the region, after Brazil🇧🇷 and Mexico🇲🇽. Experts expect Bre-B to play a similar role for Colombians as PIX did in Brazil, with the country’s digital market projected to reach USD 73 billion by 2028.
