😱 China🇨🇳 launches an international alliance to combat online fraud
Forty countries have agreed to join a new international coalition aimed at combating online fraud, with its official launch scheduled for September. The initiative seeks to establish a permanent framework for global cooperation against increasingly sophisticated digital crime networks.
🔴 The alliance is being developed as an intergovernmental organization bringing together law enforcement agencies, security authorities, and relevant institutions from multiple countries. Its main objective is to enhance intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and international cooperation in combating online fraud, telecommunications scams, and other forms of transnational cybercrime.
🔴 China has identified the fight against telecommunications and online fraud as a national priority for the next five years. A recent report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) highlights that Chinese citizens are among the primary victims of online fraud schemes and a key target for illegal gambling operators.
🔴 At the same time, the report states that transnational criminal organizations of Chinese origin play a central role in the cyberfraud economy across Southeast Asia. These groups operate large-scale infrastructure hubs in border areas and special economic zones (SEZs) in Myanmar🇲🇲, Cambodia🇰🇭, and the Lao People's Democratic Republic🇱🇦.
🔴 In Cambodia, criminal groups reportedly used casinos as operational centers for fraudulent activities, prompting the Cambodian Gambling Management Commission (CGMC) to revoke their licenses in February 2026.
