🔝 By the end of the year, Stripe🇺🇸 plans to expand the reach of stablecoin-enabled cards to 100 countries
According to CoinDesk, Stripe🇺🇸 plans to expand the availability of its stablecoin-enabled cards to 100 countries by the end of 2026.
The fintech's long-term plans also include the development of tokenized deposits and the exploration of applications related to decentralized finance (DeFi).
▶️ Current Stripe customers include cryptocurrency exchange Kraken🇺🇸, fintech company Ramp🇺🇸, and payments app Morse🇭🇰🇺🇸. For companies such as Ramp, the use of stablecoins could facilitate the expansion of corporate cards into new markets, without requiring banking and payment systems to be rebuilt for each jurisdiction.
In Kraken's case, the company is exploring the possibility of allowing customers to use funds from accounts where they already hold digital assets for purchases.
▶️ The expansion comes amid the rapid growth of the digital dollar market, whose volume has already surpassed USD 300 billion.
▶️ The stablecoin-enabled card segment is also growing. According to Paymentscan, approximately USD 1.2 billion in stablecoins was spent through this type of card in September 2026, nearly three times more than a year earlier.
Stripe believes that integrating these cards into its existing payments infrastructure will be relatively straightforward.
▶️ Context: since 2018, Stripe has issued more than 400 million cards and processed hundreds of billions of USD in payments.
😀 The company's stablecoin offering combines its card-issuing infrastructure with Bridge, a company acquired by Stripe in 2024 and tasked with developing the infrastructure related to stablecoin payments.
😀 In addition, Stripe is one of the founding investors in Open Standard, a company developing Open USD, a stablecoin designed to compete with USDC and USDT.
▶️ Worth noting: the use of stablecoins is no longer limited to cryptocurrency trading and cross-border transfers. Their use for everyday payments and purchases is also gaining traction, a trend that Stripe aims to capitalize on by expanding its cards into new markets.
