🙈 Brazil🇧🇷: Treasury investigated 73 online betting operators and imposed USD 2.17 million in fines over 18 months
Since the launch of Brazil's regulated gambling market, more than 100 administrative proceedings have been initiated against betting operators for alleged regulatory violations. According to information obtained in June 2026 under the Access to Information Law and published by Folha de S.Paulo, enforcement actions targeted 73 of the country's 85 licensed operators.
➡️ Enforcement statistics: the sanctions resulted from approximately 200 regulatory inspections. Of the 39 cases concluded so far, 32 resulted in warnings, while 7 led to financial penalties, totaling the amount stated in the headline.
➡️ Penalty framework: Brazilian law provides for fines of up to 2 billion Brazilian reais (USD 1.4533 billion) per violation, with penalties ranging from 0.1% to 20% of a company's revenue. In the cases concluded so far, however, none of the fines exceeded 0.5%.
➡️ Why warnings predominate: because the regulated market is still in its early stages, most operators committed first-time violations, a circumstance considered a mitigating factor by the authorities.
➡️ License revocation: the most severe regulatory sanction has not yet been applied. The only suspension issued, involving Pixbet, was lifted after the company resolved its compliance issues through the Consumidor.gov.br platform.
➡️ Next steps: the Ministry of Finance announced that, during the fourth quarter of 2026, it will strengthen its monitoring and enforcement procedures. Among its priorities is the development of mechanisms to facilitate compensation for players harmed by regulatory violations.
