🔨 Brazil🇧🇷: the Bahia State Prosecutor's Office has initiated proceedings against three payment intermediaries

The Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Bahia (MP-BA) filed a public civil action against three companies that, according to the agency, allegedly participated in the intermediation of payments intended for unauthorized fixed-odds betting platforms.

The investigation was launched following a consumer complaint from an individual who claimed to have been the victim of fraud involving betting platforms and payment intermediaries, resulting in losses of more than USD 20,000.

➡ The companies suspected of acting as intermediaries are:

🔹 Nuoro Pay Instituição de Pagamento Ltda.
🔹 Select Credit Sociedade de Crédito ao Microempreendedor e a Empresa de Pequeno Porte Ltda.
🔹 Cartos Sociedade de Crédito Direto SA.

➡ The first two intermediated payments for illegal betting operators without conducting the required checks, while the third provided infrastructure for processing payments through Nuoro Pay. The funds moved through a chain of intermediaries, making it difficult to identify the final beneficiaries.

➡ During the investigation, multiple signs of illegal activity were identified: short-lived legal entities, repeated addresses, document alterations, and frequent changes in corporate structures.

➡ The Prosecutor's Office is seeking to freeze the assets of the companies and their partners in the amount of USD 970,000 to secure potential claims, as well as to completely terminate the activities of Nuoro Pay, Select Credit and Cartos.

👀 Context: since 2025, inquiries have identified 1,536 problematic cases related to Nuoro Pay (previously — Silium): requests for refunds, financial consultations, and complaints. In addition, reports of fraud related to gambling and betting have been received.
