🫣 Brazil 🇧🇷: since January, the average Pix transaction for betting increased by 200%

The Central Bank of Brazil is now blaming its own creation, Pix, for "worsening the quality of services and impoverishing the population".

➡️ According to data from O'Globo, even beneficiaries of the “Bolsa Familia” social program — i.e., disadvantaged sectors — have been placing bets.

➡️ These bets include both sports and online casino slots. A Central Bank report estimates that between 18 and 21 billion reais (approximately $3.292 to $3.841 billion USD) are transferred monthly for these purposes.

➡️ Additionally, these figures could be underestimated, as many companies operate under names that do not appear in official records, thereby circumventing detection.

➡️ It is estimated that approximately 15% of the bets are retained by the platforms, while the rest is distributed as prizes to the winners.

➡️ In terms of bettor demographics, most are between 20 and 30 years old, although individuals from various age groups also participate.
