💣 Brazil🇧🇷: Russian citizens can pay for purchases in reais using QR codes through the “My MTS” app

To enable this service, the joint-stock company Mobile TeleSystems, known as MTS partnered with Brazil's instant payment system Pix, which is widely used for payments across Brazil.

⏩ How does it work ⁉️

Users must first log in to the “My MTS” app, regardless of which mobile operator they use. They can then open the “Money” section, select “QR code payment”, and scan the code displayed at the payment terminal. For faster access, users can also press and hold the app icon until the pop-up menu appears, select “QR code payment”, and then choose the account to be charged.

⏩ Which payment methods are available ⁉️

Payments can be made by card or directly from a personal bank account at virtually any domestic bank supported by MTS. Transactions are processed free of charge.

⏩ Real/ruble exchange rate: The exchange rate between the Brazilian real and the Russian ruble is determined at the time of purchase.

⏩ Transaction limit: The maximum transaction amount is RUB 800,000. Payments of up to RUB 5,000 do not require SMS confirmation, allowing users to complete purchases even without mobile network coverage, provided they have an internet connection.

⏩ International expansion: MTS currently supports payments using local QR codes in around ten countries, including Turkey🇹🇷, Egypt🇪🇬, Vietnam🇻🇳 and China🇨🇳. In June, the company also launched an enhanced cashback program for purchases made abroad through the “My MTS” app.

⏩ Benefits for MTS customers: MTS subscribers can make payments even when their mobile account has a negative balance, provided they have an internet connection.

⏩ Travel to Brazil: Russian citizens can enter Brazil visa-free for tourist stays of up to 90 days, with the possibility of extending their stay for an additional 90 days. Travelers are generally required to present a return ticket upon entry.
