😱 Brazil🇧🇷: Regulator prepares for the "National Registry of Banned Gamblers"

The Brazilian government is developing a national registry of banned gamblers. Citizens included in this list will not be allowed to play on sports betting platforms with fixed odds, and the organization responsible for this system will be the "Secretariat of Prizes and Gambling" (SPA), under the Ministry of Finance.

➡️ When? — The system is not expected to be available before the second half of 2025. Between April and June, the project will be presented for public consultation, with adjustments made based on feedback received.

➡️ Who will be affected? — The registry will include individuals legally prohibited from gambling (such as players, coaches, referees, minors, and regulators), those banned by court order, and individuals classified as "self-excluded"(though specific criteria for this category remain unclear).

➡️ While a centralized database is a step in the right direction, it remains uncertain how authorities will ensure that banned individuals are effectively prevented from placing bets. This aspect still lacks clarity.

➡️ Context: As of now, 68 companies in the gaming sector have been authorized to operate in Brazil, with 153 brandsreceiving licenses. Regarding illegal betting sites, the Ministry has instructed the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to block 11,555 domains. In January alone, following the implementation of market regulations, 75 inspectionswere conducted.
