↔️ Brazil🇧🇷: Pix launches integration with Asian e-wallets and banking applications
The first stage of the RoamQR—Pix integration allows Asian customers to pay for purchases at Brazilian merchants by scanning QR codes. In the next stage, Brazilian users will be able to make payments in Asia using Pix.
📌 Scope:
🟰 The infrastructure was developed by Liquid Group, with the participation of PagBrasil, and operates as an interoperability layer between national QR payment systems.
🟰 Users scan a standard Pix QR code at the point of sale and confirm the payment through their banking application, while the amount is displayed in the customer's local currency.
📌 What does this mean for participants?
🟰 Applications can operate outside their domestic markets without requiring international wallets, additional bank accounts or switching between different applications.
🟰 Users can maintain the same payment process: they can use abroad the same method they normally use at home, without having to make changes or learn new procedures.
🟰 Two-way interoperability will help reduce transaction costs, which is particularly relevant for large Asian communities in Brazil and Brazilians living in Southeast Asia.
📌 Geopolitics: the new corridor reduces users' dependence on traditional channels, particularly global payment systems Visa and Mastercard. In the United States🇺🇸, this development has generated criticism and accusations that Brazil's measures harm U.S. interests in the country. Brazil maintained its position, and the United States imposed tariffs of 25% on certain Brazilian products. China took advantage of this context and became the first country to connect Pix to its payment system UnionPay.
📌 Context: Liquid Group is a Singaporean🇸🇬 fintech company licensed as an MPI. The company focuses on electronic money issuance and digital payment and money transfer services. RoamQR is Liquid Group's first project outside Southeast Asia. The first stage of the integration was launched 8 months after the commercial agreement was signed in late 2025.
