🙈 Brazil🇧🇷: More than 80% of Illegal Betting Platforms Are Still Operating

As expected, Brazil continues to be a hotspot for illegal betting.

➡️ Context: Last year, the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) from the Ministry of Finance attempted to block 7,599 illegal betting sites, but most are still active, redirecting users to other sites or apps.

➡️ What's the problem?: Simply blocking the URL, as done by the National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL), is not enough. Additionally, DNS blocking has not been addressed, and many platforms mimic the design of legal sites to appear legitimate.

➡️ Current Situation: In Brazil, 155 platforms are legally approved, and 13 more operate under judicial authorization. These operators must pay a 30 million reais fee (approximately 5.1 million USD) and use domains with the “.bet.br”extension.

👉 Most illegal sites use domains from other countries, leading regulators to seek international cooperation to tackle the issue.
