🤬 Brazil🇧🇷: loyalty and cashback programs in the gambling sector may be banned

The corresponding bill aims to “limit mechanisms for incentivizing and retaining betting activity” and is currently under review in the Senate. The initiative was introduced by evangelical representatives.

🔺 Existing legislation had already prohibited the provision of upfront bonuses, but the current proposal significantly expands restrictions to include cashback mechanisms, loyalty and reward programs, deposit-based promotions, incentives tied to player activity, as well as gamification features that encourage repeat betting.

🔺 The proposal also bans the sending of personalized messages that, based on user behavior, encourage players to resume or increase betting activity on the platform. These practices are considered high-risk, and operators will be required to take measures to prevent such notifications from reaching users.

🔺 The bill currently does not specify the sanctions to be applied in case of non-compliance.

🔺 If adopted, betting operators will have 90 days to comply with the new regulatory requirements.
