👺Brazil🇧🇷: Local regulator plans to block 115 betting houses in Rio

Sector organizations are protesting. It seems this is becoming a trend in the region, and the number of "condemned" is almost the same as in Argentina two weeks ago.

➡️ The National Association of Gambling and Lotteries (ANJL) and the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR) have criticized the court's decision that forced the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to block 115 sports betting and online gaming sites operating in Rio de Janeiro without official registration in the state.

➡️ The list of sites to be removed includes Betano, Betnacional, Esportes da Sorte, and Vai de Bet, as well as the sponsors of Rio clubs Botafogo (Parimatch), Fluminense (SuperBet), and Vasco (Betfair).

➡️ According to an IBJR representative, such a decision "harms Brazil's business environment".

➡️ Most likely, the appeal will become a real reason for review. The court acted based on a "Provisional Measure" (1182), but on December 29, 2023, a new law 14 790 came into force, according to which the licensing and prohibitions are the exclusive responsibility of the Brazilian Ministry of Finance, not state authorities.
