Brazil's Federal Police have dismantled a criminal organization allegedly operating illegal online betting platforms and laundering proceeds linked to drug trafficking. According to investigators, the websites displayed forged Ministry of Finance seals to create the false impression that they were legally authorized to operate.

🟢 Operation "Slots": with technical support from the Secretariat for Prizes and Betting (SPA), authorities executed 14 search and seizure warrants and 2 temporary arrest warrants across six states: Espírito Santo, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Paraíba, and Sergipe.

🟢 How did the scheme operate? Investigators uncovered a multi-layered structure in which influencers—including two content creators who were arrested—promoted illegal betting platforms. Meanwhile, payment intermediary companies were responsible for receiving, transferring, and distributing funds collected from gamblers. Authorities also identified 11 legal entities suspected of operating as shell companies, lacking the licenses and authorizations required to conduct their activities.

🟢 Assets and financial activity: investigators found that the main suspects had accumulated wealth inconsistent with their officially declared income. Over a two-year period, the companies under investigation processed more than BRL 10 billion (approximately USD 1.97 billion) in financial transactions.

🟢 Enforcement measures: court-ordered actions include the freezing and seizure of assets worth approximately USD 187 million, the confiscation of real estate and luxury vehicles, a ban preventing those under investigation from continuing to promote illegal betting platforms, and the suspension of the operations of the companies involved.
