⚽️ Brazil🇧🇷: ahead of the FIFA World Cup, scams are becoming more aggressive while regulators tighten controls
The first claim is based on a study conducted by Syno International between November 3 and November 10, 2025, while the second reflects both recent statements made by the president and the broader trend toward stricter regulatory enforcement in Brazil.
The study surveyed 1,000 adult Brazilians.
🟰 Over the past eighteen months, 34% of Brazilian internet users became victims of some form of football-related scam. For comparison, during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the figure stood at 19%.
🟰 Football-related scams are concentrated primarily in three sectors: sports betting (75% of reported cases), fake ticket sales (65%), and the sale of counterfeit merchandise (57%).
🟰 The main channel used by scammers is social media, particularly platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp, both of which are extensively used throughout Brazil.
🟰 Regarding betting-related scams:
✅ 53% of victims reported scams involving fake betting predictions and alleged “inside information.”
✅ 50% said they encountered fraudulent betting offers or fake gambling platforms.
✅ 43% mentioned deceptive bonus promotions that required advance payments in exchange for supposed activations or guaranteed winnings.
🟰 Notable detail: among Brazilians who suffered financial losses, 58% became victims of fraud four or more times.
🟰🟰 Meanwhile, the federal government continues promoting measures aimed at consumer protection. One example is the review of consumer credit conditions under the Novo Desenrola Brasil state program. Participants in the program will be prohibited from using licensed online betting platforms for 12 months after signing a new debt agreement.
